Athletics Recap April 20

BASEBALL


The Jenison baseball team defeated Grandville, 4-2, in 10 innings on Thursday on the road. The Wildcats improve to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.


The Wildcats broke a 0-0 tie in the 10th inning with four runs including RBI singles from Ben Slagter and Hayden Winger.


Sophomore Case Bosch threw seven scoreless innings while striking out 11. Eli Sytsma thew 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and Case Hennip earned the win tossing the final 1.2 innings.


Slagter and Winger each had two hits to lead the offense.


SOFTBALL


The Jenison softball team defeated Grand Haven by a score of 3-2 in eight innings on Thursday. The Wildcats improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in OK Red play.


The score was tied at 1-1 entering the eighth inning before Kenadee Schnick drove in Macy Alkema on an RBI double to take the lead.


Alli Wright earned the win in the circle, throwing all eight innings and striking out 11.


Schnick led the offense with two hits and two runs scored.


GIRLS WATER POLO


The Jenison girls water polo team defeated Zeeland, 17-5, on Thursday to improve to 15-2 overall on the season.


Hailey Sherman scored a team-high seven goals, while Maddie Breuker and Eden Huyser finished with four and two goals respectively. Lily De Maal Malefyt, Sara Jean Postle, Katelyn Wenglikowski, and Makayla Muir each scored one goal.


GIRLS SOCCER


The Jenison girls soccer team fell to No. 5 ranked Hudsonville by a score of 3-0 on Thursday evening. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-2-2 on the season.
