Jenison Baseball defeats No. 4 ranked Rockford on Thursday

The Jenison baseball team defeated No. 4 ranked Rockford on Thursday night by a score of 4-1 to give the Rams their first loss of the season. Jenison improves to 6-6 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Freshman Case Bosch earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings while allowing five hits, two walks, and recorded five strikeouts. Senior Madison Wood threw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief before sophomore Corbin Bennetts got the final two outs for the save.

Both teams scored in the second inning, but the game remained tied at 1-1 until the fifth inning.

Jenison led off the fifth inning with a single from Bear Casarez and a sacrifice bunt by Matthew Vendal that resulted in an error which moved runners to first and third. The Wildcats scored two runs on RBI groundouts by Joey Heyboer and Landon Mueller, then a third run came around to score after a stolen base by Bennetts and a throwing error by the Rockford catcher.

Bennetts, Jackson Sytsma, Casarez, and Vendal each had a hit for Jenison.

The Wildcats will host No. 10 ranked Mona Shores on Saturday.
