The Jenison baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 7 ranked Rockford on Tuesday by scores of 6-3 and 2-1. The Wildcats drop to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in league play.

In game one, Rockford scored three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning to take an early 5-0 lead. Junior Jackson Sytsma was given the loss, throwing five innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out six. Senior Matthew Vendal pitched two innings in relief and allowed just one unearned run to keep Jenison in the game.

After two scoreless innings in game two, Rockford scored a pair of runs on a two-out single to take a 2-0 lead. Jenison answered back in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by sophomore Corbin Bennetts to cut the Rockford lead to 2-1. Jenison had a runner in scoring position in the seventh inning, but failed to score and the Rams secured the win.

Vendal and Josh Huene combined to pitch 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out six batters.

Junior Ray Sherff led the offense with two hits.
