Jenison Baseball sweeps Forest Hills Northern on Saturday

The Jenison baseball team swept Forest Hills Northern (18-11) by scores of 6-5 and 3-0 on Saturday on the road. The Wildcats surpass their win total from a season ago and move their record to 20-13.


In game one, Jenison jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings of play, but Forest Hills Northern scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. The Wildcats took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning when Jackson Sytsma launched a two-run home run to left field.


Freshman Ben Slagter earned the win as he got the final out of the fifth inning, while Corbin Bennetts threw two scoreless innings in relief for the save.


Sytsma led the offense with two hits, three runs, two RBI, and two walks.


Jenison scored one run in the third, fifth, and sixth innings in game two. Ray Sherff drove in a pair of runs, while Landon Mueller scored a run and walked three times.


Madison Wood and Sytsma combined for the two-hit shutout as Wood (four innings) was credited with the victory and Sytsma (three innings) earned the save.


The Wildcats will travel to Zeeland East on Tuesday for the final tune-up before districts. Jenison will play at home next Saturday in the district semifinals against the winner of Grandville/Union.
