Jenison Baseball sweeps West Ottawa on Monday

The Jenison baseball team swept West Ottawa on Monday by scores of 7-4 and 5-4 in a OK Red showdown. The Wildcats improve to 17-13 overall and 11-9 in league play.


In game one, Jenison scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but no team would score the next four innings. In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats broke the game open with six runs before West Ottawa made it close in the seventh inning, scoring four runs.


Jackson Sytsma earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, and two walks, while striking out eight. Corbin Bennetts earned the save as he got the final two outs of the game.


Jaxen Bagley and Landon Mueller each drove in two runs to lead the offense.


In game two, Jenison trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth before Case Bosch tied the game on an RBI single and Bennetts drove Bosch in for the eventual game-winning hit.


RJ Rathsack, Bennetts, and Bosch each had multi-hit games.


Madison Wood was credited with the no decision, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, and struck out seven. Freshman Ben Slagter earned the win by tossing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.


Jenison clinched a share of third place in the OK Red and will look to sweep West Ottawa on Wednesday.
