The Jenison boys basketball team defeated Holland, 58-53, in overtime on Monday night in the opening round of MHSAA district play.
Jenison led 14-11 after the first quarter before Holland took control of the second quarter and led 26-21 at the half. The Dutch would continue to increase the margin in the second half as they led 36-26 entering the fourth quarter.
Holland held a double-digit lead halfway through the final frame before Jenison went on an 11-0 run to take a 44-43 lead with two minutes remaining. The game was tied at 47-47 in the closing seconds but Jenison could not convert on the game-winning attempt.
Jenison outscored Holland 11-6 in the extra period to secure the victory.
Caleb Dean led Jenison with 19 points, while Gage Chatfield added 12 points.
The Wildcats will take on Grandville in the district semifinals at Grandville on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
