The Jenison boys basketball team held on to defeat Grandville, 63-61, on Friday night in league play. The Wildcats avenged a 65-41 loss against the Bulldogs back on Jan. 7.
Grandville jumped out to a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Jenison offense heated up in the second quarter. The Wildcats would take a 31-25 lead into the half. Jenison then held Grandville to just nine points in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a 48-34 lead. The Bulldogs stormed back and cut the Jenison lead to just two points with seconds remaining before missing the game-tying layup at the buzzer.
Caleb Dean scored a season-high 27 points to lead Jenison, while Nathan Arbaugh (12 points) and Carter VanManen also finished in double-figures (10 points).
Jenison will travel to Caledonia on Tuesday (Feb. 8).
