Jenison Football Honors 11 Seniors; Defeats East Kentwood in Season Finale

The Jenison football team won their final game of the season, 31-22, over East Kentwood on Senior Night at David McKenzie Stadium. The Wildcats honored 11 seniors playing their final high school football game including; Carter VanManen, Cam Duval, Caleb Dean, Gavin Phillips, Ethan Mate, Jacob Gregg, Jaden Swift, Peter Burris, Joey Stapleton, Nate Arbaugh, and RJ Rathsack.


East Kentwood scored on their first possession after stopping Jenison on fourth down in the opening drive. The Falcons covered 39 yards in just two plays to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Jenison would finally answer on a 15 play 72-yard drive late in the first quarter, capped off by a Carter VanManen QB sneak for the touchdown. Owen Snyder buried a 40 yard field goal on Jenison's next possession to give the Wildcats a 10-7 lead with 5 minutes left in the first half.


East Kentwood led 14-10 at the half after scoring a touchdown in the final minutes of the second quarter.


The Wildcats offense was explosive early in the second half, scoring a pair of touchdowns in as many possessions. Riley Russo ran in a 25-yard score and VanManen connected with RJ Rathsack on a 21-yard score to give Jenison a 24-14 lead late in the third frame. Caleb Dean would find the end zone as well from 54 yards out in the fourth quarter to pad the Jenison lead.


VanManen ran for 142 yards on 31 carries including two total touchdowns, while Dean had 107 total yards and a touchdown. Leo Vandentoorn led the defense with six total tackles and a blocked punt.


Jenison ends the season with a record of 3-6.
