The Jenison football team defeated Forest Hills Northern, 31-20, on Thursday night at David McKenzie Stadium for the home opener. The Wildcats improve to 1-1 overall.
After a scoreless first quarter, FHN was punting in their own end zone when Jenison blocked the punt and Leo VandenToorn fell on it for a touchdown. A quick three and out by the defense and a Sam Morales 50-yard touchdown run gave Jenison a 14-0 lead just three minutes into the second quarter. The Wildcats would score again late in the frame on a nine yard touchdown pass from Braden Arbaugh to Jackson Sytsma.
Jenison led 21-0 at the half.
Deseante Riley scored a touchdown and Owen Snyder knocked in a 41-yard field goal to cap the Jenison scoring in the second half. FHN scored on the final play of the game to make the final, 31-20.
Morales led the offense with 11 carries for 88 yards a touchdown, while Sytsma hauled in three catches for 35 yards.
Landon Mueller recorded a team-high eight tackles and Kris Dailey intercepted a pass for the defense.
Jenison will host state-ranked Caledonia next week (Fri. Sep. 9).
