The Jenison girls soccer team defeated Grand Rapids Union, 3-1, in the MHSAA District opener on Wednesday evening. The Wildcats advance to the District Semifinals on June 1 against Rockford at Mona Shores. Union finishes the season with a record of 12-6-1, while Jenison improves to 4-10-5.
Union scored just five minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead before Allison Westerbeek netted a goal at the 15:00 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Ella Chatfield found the back of the net later in the first half to give Jenison a 2-1 lead.
Chatfield iced the game in the second half with her second goal of the contest.
