The Jenison hockey team overcame a slow start to defeat East Kentwood, 5-2, on Monday evening in a regional matchup. The Wildcats will advance to the regional semifinals on Wednesday against Grand Rapids Christian at Griff's Georgetown.
East Kentwood scored the first goal to go up 1-0, before RJ Rathsack found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Gavin Phillips added a goal to give Jenison the lead, but East Kentwood answered and the game was tied at 2-2 heading into the third period.
The Wildcats would score three goals in the third period to take control of the game. Nathaniel Kloppe scored one goal and RJ Rathsack scored a pair of goals in the period to give him a hat trick for the night.
