The No. 5 ranked Jenison softball team defeated Grandville, 3-1, in the MHSAA district opener at Grandville on Tuesday. The Wildcats improve to 34-3 overall and advance to the district semifinals on Saturday against Union (at Grandville, 12:00 PM).
Freshman Alli Wright tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out 14 batters.
Jenison took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd on a sac fly from Elsie Norton, scoring Morgan Huyser. The game would remain at 1-0 until the seventh inning.
The Wildcats added a pair of insurance runs in the final inning on a two-run double by Sam Timmer.
