The Jenison softball team dropped their first game of the season in a doubleheader split with Unity Christian on Monday. The Wildcats, who moved their record to 6-1 on the season, fell in game one, 4-3, before bouncing back for a 8-7 victory in game two.
Brynn Timmer pitched five innings in game one, only allowing one hit and one run, but received a no decision.
The game was tied at 1-1 in the top of the sixth when Unity Christian scored a pair of runs and added another in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. Jenison plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single from Korrie Schuurman, but could not get the tying run across.
In game two, the Wildcats scored three runs in the first, one in the second, and four in the fifth to take control of the game. Unity Christian scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one-run game.
Alli Wright earned the win by throwing three innings while allowing two hits, one run, and striking out five.
Elsie Norton had a team-high three hits, while Marah Griffore, Taryn Maynard, and Sam Timmer each had two hits. Griffore launched a two-run home run in the first inning.
Jenison will host Rockford tomorrow in an OK Red doubleheader.
