The Jenison wrestling team began the 2021-22 campaign with a split at the Fremont Quad on Wednesday night. The Wildcats defeated Mason County Central, 45-21, but fell to the host Fremont, 52-27.
*Jenison voided four weight classes giving Fremont 24 points to start the match.
The Wildcats won five matches against the Packers including; Jacob Gregg, Josue Hernandez, Brendan Wangler (pin), Chris VanOpstall (pin), and Ian Barynas (pin)
In the match vs. Mason County Central, Gregg (pin), Spencer Strelecki (pin), Hernandez, and Aiden Heberly earned wins, while VanOpstall, Wangler, Max Alkema, and Colton Plowman received wins via void.
Wangler, Strelecki, Barynas, and Heberly each earned their first varsity win.
Jenison will be back in action on Saturday at the Mona Shores Invite.
