May 5 Athletics Recap

SOFTBALL


The No. 5 ranked Jenison softball team swept a doubleheader with West Ottawa by scores of 8-0 and 14-2 on Friday. The Wildcats improve to 16-4 overall.


Claire Merritt threw a complete-game shutout in game one, allowing just four hits and striking out 13.


Emily DeWeerd and Ellen Smit each had two hits to lead the offense.


In game two, Alli Wright earned the win by tossing all seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and 14 strikeouts.


Terin Maynard and Macy Alkema each recorded three hits and a pair of RBI.


GIRLS SOCCER


The Jenison girls soccer team defeated Lowell, 3-2, on Friday night at home.


Jaelyn Lehti scored two goals, while Claira DeYoung scored one goal.


Bella Berry earned the win in net.


BASEBALL


The No. 15 ranked Jenison baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 5 ranked Rockford, winning game one, 10-4, before dropping game two, 5-4, in eight innings. The Wildcats won two out of three games in the series and improve to 12-6 overall.


In game one, Jackson Sytsma earned the win by throwing a complete-game, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and six strikeouts.


Jack Wiercinski and Joey Heyboer each had a pair of hits for Jenison, while Corbin Bennetts drove in three runs.


In game two, Jenison led 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Rams tied the game at 4-4. Rockford would win on a walk-off walk in the eighth inning.


Ben Slagter threw seven innings, allowing four runs, while striking out six.


Landon Mueller tallied a team-high two hits.


BOYS GOLF


The Jenison varsity golf team competed in the Grand Haven jamboree this past Wednesday at American Dunes Golf Course. Low score for the Wildcats was Brady Pettenger firing a 44.

The Wildcats were in action again today at the Ottawa County Invitational hosted by Jenison at the Meadows Golf Course at Grand Valley State University. Low rounds for the Wildcats were posted by Hayden Blik firing in an 86 and Myles Allen an 89.

Jenison will return to action on Monday when they travel to Sunnybrook for the OK Red jamboree hosted by Hudsonville.
